Report: State Sales Tax Collections Up

State and local sales tax collections in October 2023 were up 2.5% over the same time period in 2023.

According to the latest report from New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, local collections totaled approximately $1.8 billion, up $43.5 million compared to the same time last year. The figures show a "relatively consistent" year-over-year growth in sales tax collections similar to levels seen in pre-pandemic years, the report stated. The data is a "positive sign" of stability, DiNapoli said.

A breakdown of the data shows New York City’s collections totaled $809 million, a 2.5% increase totaling $21 million. A majority (45 out of 57) counties experienced "some" year-over-year increase, the report showed.
