New Yorkers Help Legal Betting Revenues Reach Record Highs

Sports betting revenues across the United States reached an all-time high in 2022, with more than $93 billion wagered, leading to $7.5 billion in total revenues. The record-high revenues were a nearly 73% increase from 2021 figures, according to the American Gaming Association.

The $93 billion wagered was also a new high across the U.S., with a 61% jump from 2021, the association said.

Three states, Louisana, Maryland, and New York, helped to increase overall sports wagering last year when they added legal sports gaming, with the Empire State leading all legal states in both wagering and revenues with more than $16 billion wagered and $1.36 billion in book revenues.

The $7.5 billion in sports revenues were part of an overall $60 billion in total commercial gaming revenues in 2022, the second year in a row an annual record in gaming revenues was broken.
