Annual Unemployment Decreases in 49 States: Survey


The annual average unemployment rate decreased in nearly all 50 states throughout 2022, according to new data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.


In 2022, the average unemployment rates decreased in 49 states, and the District of

Columbia, while employment-population ratios increased in 36 states and D.C., the data shows. Nationwide, the U.S. jobless rate declined to 3.6%, a 1.7% decrease from its 2021 rate. Nationwide the employment-population ratios also rose by 1.6% to 60%.


The report shows the unemployment rates decreased from 2021 in all four regions of the country, including the Northeast (-2.3%), the West (-2.2%), the South (-1.4%), and the Midwest (-1.2%).
