New York Governor Kathy Hochul has a 17-point lead in the race for Governor, Chuck Schumer has a 19-point lead, and Attorney General Letitia James has a 16-point lead according to the latest Siena Poll released Wednesday.
With 40 days until the election, Governor Hochul has a 54-37% lead over Republican challenger Lee Zeldin, the poll shows. It's no surprise each candidate has a strong hold on their respective base with Governor Hochul having 81% support from Democrats and Lee Zeldin having 77% support from Republicans. In terms of independent voters, Zeldin holds a narrow 45-42% lead over the incumbent Hochul, according to the poll.
“Zeldin’s narrow lead among independents is both good – it’s a lead – and bad – it’s narrow. To close or even narrow a 17-point gap, he would need to win a far greater share of independents, solidify Republican support, as well as pick off some more Democrats," said Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg.
